6 months!

Wow, where has 6 months gone? As you can see, Abby is enjoying playing with baby food, but not really eating it. I took her for her 6 month check-up today and she was 15 lbs. 4 oz. (25-50th%) and 27 inches long (90th%). Abby is doing lots of new things these days, she can roll from front to back and back to front, she can sit up unassisted for a short time, and she makes lots of noises (I have a feeling she is going to talk much younger than Luke). Abby also likes to grab anything and everything in sight.....Luke doesn't like this at all! Most of all, Abby just likes attention, I think calling her a princess all the time has already gone to her head.

In other VERY exciting news - Luke actually went to the bathroom in the toilet for the very first time today!!!!!!! I screamed and jumped so much that I think I scared him and he may never do it again!!! I was so proud of him though because he told me all on his own that he needed to go (I thought he just wanted to play with the toilet paper like usual), but to my complete shock, he actually went! Yea, there is hope in sight for only having 1 child in diapers sooon!!!!

Spring Break

This week was our first trip together as a family of 4....traveling with 2 kids is definitely different than traveling with 1!! We spent the week in San Antonio while Vic was there for a conference. Even though he had work to do, we still had time to all do things together, and it was fun just to all be together. It was really nice to come home last night though and put the kids in their own rooms, we weren't particularly fond of all sleeping in the same room, as this required turning off the lights and all trying to go to sleep at 8:00!!! Here are some pictures,

This was Luke's first trip to sleep in a big bed (instead of a pack-n-play). He seemed to like it and he only fell out of bed once!

My aunt and uncle live in San Antonio, so my Aunt Mary was nice enough to hang out with us while Vic was working. We took the kids to a really huge inflatables place....he loved sliding down the big slide! And it was a big help to have someone hold Abby while I chased Luke!

Fortunately, we had further reinforcements later in the week, my parents came and stayed in the same hotel as us for the second half of our trip. Notice Luke's gun in the picture....being the fantastic parents that Vic and I are, we took one look at the line of people to walk through the Alamo and decided that a trip through the gift store and buying Luke an age inappropriate toy (the gun said it was for children over 5), was just as good. We decided that we don't remember enough about Texas history to try to explain the Alamo to Luke anyways, so we will leave this to his 7th grade history teacher. If this doesn't win us "parents of the year" award, I don't know what will.

Since San Antonio was completely packed over spring break, and you could hardly get near the river, and we couldn't even get off the freeway to get close to the zoo, we tried the children's museum and it was awesome! It was perfect for Luke's age, and he enjoyed everything from playing in an airplane, to riding in a frontloader simulator that moved rocks, to a bubbles/water exhibit and of course the grocery store.

We also enjoyed lots of yummy food, you know how Luke loves Mexican food!!

And Abby celebrated her 6 month birthday!! She did great the whole trip, she seemed to enjoy all the action and was happy wherever we took her. We go to the doctor next week for her check-up, so I'll post more about her then.

Oil Ranch

Today we went on a MOPS field trip to the Oil Ranch and enjoyed an absolutely beautiful day of fun outside. It made me want to live on a farm....until a rooster got too close to me and I screamed - I then decided I am not meant to live on a farm. I love trips like this though because it involves lots of wide open space where Luke can run around and do what he wants!
Luke rode on a horse twice, which I was very surprised by because he usually doesn't like to be on things that move!

For some reason, the animals in the petting zoo all ran away from Luke every time he got close - maybe they remembered him from last year?

This animal was very interested in Abby and actually tried to eat things hanging off her diaper bag - I had to get Abby out of there before he tried to eat her!

I think the highlight of Luke's day was running around a huge barn of hay, and jumping off of it! Here was a mid-air shot :-)

Nothing ends a fun day outside better than a snow cone!

And in other news - Abby all of the sudden started sitting up on her own today! We were playing in her room tonight and she was holding onto the dinosaur and sitting by herself, but then was able to let go and still sit for awhile. I can't believe she is getting so big!!

Rodeo

My mom and I took Luke and Abby to the rodeo today, and as usual, Luke surprised me with what he was interested in. I went expecting him to love the animals and exhibits, but what did my child enjoy the most? ROLLING DOWN A FAKE HILL. I guess this is what happens when you live in Houston and only ever see flat ground. Oh well, that was the highlight of his day and it was actually really cute to see because Luke didn't know how to roll at first and figured it out by watching the other kids. Here are some pictures :-)

Oh yea, he liked the tractors too, but he didn't want to stand in line to climb into them, so he just tried climbing up the other side, that's my patient boy!

When we got home from the rodeo, Luke found his sunglasses in the car, and now he won't take them off. And he only wears them upside down, I don't have an explanation for this.

Real food!

Abby has been really fussy and hungry in the evenings lately and we were planning on starting solid food next week anyways, so we decided tonight would be the night! She tried sweet potatoes, and she kept diving towards the spoon, so we assume she liked them :-)

Not so sure.....

Oops, mommy and daddy should have thought to put a bib on me!

Playing with friends

Today our good friends Jessica, Sterling and Kate came over to play. Luke and Sterling played non-stop for hours and had lots of fun. Kate and Abby were so cute as they have started to really notice each other and want to reach out and touch each other! The funny thing is that all the pictures I caught of Luke and Sterling show them looking so sweet and innocent, yet Jessica and I spent most of our time being referees as they constantly wanted what the other had! But that's just typical 2 year-olds, which I love, because they can steal toys and hit each over the head with golf clubs (yes this happened, but they were plastic fortuntately!) and then leave at the end of the day saying they are friends and had a fun time :-)

Busted

After returning home from a playgroup this morning, I was unloading the car and caught Luke hiding in the pantry pouring an entire container of sprinkles into his mouth!! And I just been thinking that he might take a nap today after playing hard this morning....I am guessing the sprinkles will give him a second wind!
