Birthday Fun

We went to a birthday party this afternoon for James and John (their dad, Brian, was Vic's roommate at A&M). It was at a super fun inflatables place, and as you can see from the pictures I think mom and dad has as much (maybe more!) fun than Luke. Luke got a little scared trying out the inflatables, but he really enjoyed watching all the kids and of course, eating icecream (his favorite part of any party!). Happy birthday James and John! :-)

Busy Weekend

We have had a very fun and busy weekend with all sorts of activities. Friday night we saw an astros game with grandma, granddad and uncle Andy. Luke was happy the entire game and even lasted to see the fireworks after the game. (He enjoyed the lights from the fireworks but not the loud noise they made!) Sunday afternoon we celebrated one of Luke's friends (Mark) 1st birthday, it was lots of fun. Luke enjoyed the icecream and swinging on the swings :-) Then today, we took Luke to our neighborhood pool and Luke had a blast! He sat in his firetruck float and enjoyed splashing in the water. He got very upset when we had to take a break and get out of the water for a few minutes during the "adult only" swim time! Here are some pictures from our weekend.

Go astros!

Vic made me jump off the diving board, took a picture without telling me and then threatened to put it on the blog if I didn't!! Needless to say, I won't be invited to the olympics to show off my dives :-)

Graduation!

Tonight was a very exciting and long anticipated event for us, Vic's official graduation ceremony! Even though he technically earned his PhD back in the fall, Baylor only has graduation in May (for the graduate and medical students together). It was quite the eventful evening, in a very unexpected way. We met our families downtown to have an early dinner before the ceremony and after dinner (10 minutes before Vic had to be in Jones hall lined up), he realized he had locked his keys in the car, which wouldn't have been that big of a deal, except that his CAP & GOWN were in the car!! (we blame this on Luke b/c this happened when Vic ran back to the car to get Luke's pacifier!) We of course completely freaked out because after 5 1/2 years of school, there was no way we had come that far to not see him walk across the stage. After calling AAA and being told they couldn't be there until after the ceremony would begin, my dad and brother got some screwdrivers out of their car and we were going to break the window. Fortunately, about 1 minute before they busted the window, Vic realized they might have some extra cap and gowns there, ran to find out, and sure enough they did. So, Vic has a diploma and an intact vehicle, praise the Lord!! (We called AAA back after the ceremony and they came right away). We are SO proud of him, this is such a huge accomplishment and he deserves it for all of his years of hard work and dedication in school.

This was when Vic was hooded by Dr. Slagle and walked across the stage, even though you can't see it!

Happy Mother's Day!

I have looked forward to this day for many years, and especially the last 10 months.....to the first time I get to celebrate Mother's Day as a mommy myself!! It has been wonderful, daddy has changed all the diapers today (Vic assured me he would remember this on Father's day!), made a great lunch and even cleaned the house....it's really too bad we don't have more of these mother's days!! The best part has just been enjoying having Luke to actually hold and play with this year, he is such a blessing. Luke even helped carry my carnation out of church that all the moms got, unfortunately he had destroyed it by the time we got to the car, but I know he meant well :-) Our families came over for lunch and our moms got to celebrate their first mother's day as moms and grandmothers, so that was special too.
Luke and mommy with the flowers Luke picked out for me :-)

Luke has unfortunately discovered a love for icecream, and poor grandma could barely fend him off while she was trying to eat hers. I think Luke ate more of the icecream than grandma did!

Weekend Away

This weekend, we took a short family vacation to San Antonio. Vic had a few days off between quitting his job last week and starting his new job this week. We had lots of fun, and Luke did great, despite few naps and lots of excitement! We spent time down on the riverwalk, went to the zoo and saw family. Here are some pictures....
My grandmother, Gran, lives in San Antonio and we celebrated her 87th birthday with her today. Luke really enjoyed getting to see his great-grandmother!

This was at my Aunt Mary's house, along with Gran and Harry.

Friday night, we hung out on the riverwalk and Luke has not taken a nap all day. He finally passed out in his stroller on our way to eat dinner. Vic and I unexpectedly were able to enjoy a very quiet and peaceful dinner, it was wonderful!!

At the San Antonio zoo on saturday

Sitting on the iguana at the zoo with mommy :-)

At the petting zoo (to Luke, it is more of a "grabbing" than "petting" experience!!)

Just like at the Houston zoo, Luke's favorite exhibit here was the large fish. He sat and watched them forever!
